COLUMBIA - Tessa Glanz Caruso, 25, died Tuesday, December 9, 2008. Born in Los Angeles, California on February 10, 1983, she moved to Columbia in 1999 with her family. She was a complex, inattentive adolescent who overcame many obstacles on the way to becoming a responsible adult. She attended Dreher High School and the Sloan School. Subsequently she did additional training and graduated from the Kenneth Shuler School of Cosmetology. She worked as a geological technician with Geo-Systems, Inc. and later as an in-house salesperson for Carolina’s Rigging. She was an artist and painted creatively on a regular basis.
Surviving are her mother and stepfather, Deborah and Dr. Robert A. Schulze, Jr. of Columbia; father, Michael Caruso; stepfather, Richard Glanz and his wife, Cheryl Slobod Glanz; twin brother, Valentino Caruso; sisters, Heidi Glanz, Tali Glanz and Alexandra Glanz, all of Los Angeles. Also surviving are aunts and uncles, Dona and CB Smith of Columbia, Rebecca and Howard Farber of Los Angeles and Carl and Carol Miller of Chapin; cousins, Janet McCaw, Robbie Coates, Kim DeBoer, Joshua Miller, all of Irmo, Jordan Miller of Philadelphia, Pa., Maggie Miller of Chapin, Hannah, Max and Emma Farber, all of Los Angeles; and her loyal and loved companion, Zeus. Her extended family included Christian Smith of Asheville, N.C., Thomas Smith of Washington, D.C., Derek and Jennifer Schulze of Charlotte, N.C. , Kristen Schulze of Charleston and Natalie Slobod of Los Angeles.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests that memorials be made to Project Pet, P.O. Box 1777, Columbia, SC 29202 or to the American Heart Association, 520 Gervais St., Suite 300, Columbia, SC 29201.
Funeral service will be held Sunday at 2 p.m. at Dunbar Funeral Home, Devine Street Chapel.
