Roy Vargas, age 62, of Hillsdale, passed away Wednesday, December 5, 2012, at his home, surrounded by his loving family.
He was born June 27, 1950, in Columbus, Montana, to Zaragosa Tobias and Herminia (Banda) Vargas. On January 31, 1970, he married Sharon Lynn Babcock and she survives.
Roy was a member of the Jonesville Rotary Club, served on the Board of Directors at the Adrian YMCA and the Board of Directors for the Senior Center in Hillsdale. He was a graduate of Adrian High School. He earned his Bachelor's Degree at Siena Heights University and his Master's Degree at Eastern Michigan University. In the early 1990's he joined with partner, Gerald McCullough in forming McCullough, Vargas and Associates, Inc. Roy dedicated his life to helping people in need, especially those who were struggling with addiction and mental illness.
Roy was an avid sports fan and attended many of his grandchildren's sports games and other activities. Roy enjoyed nature and the outdoors. He loved to hunt; fish; camp; bird watch; work in the garden; walk the dogs; and read, especially newspapers.
In addition to his wife of 42 years, Sharon, he is survived by his mother, Herminia Vargas of Adrian; three children, Miguel "Mick" (Wendy) Vargas of Ida, Ryan (Melissa) Vargas of Adrian and Elisia (Eric) Dumire of Adrian; one sister, Olga Vargas of Adrian; two brothers, Zaragosa (Zaneta) Vargas of Chapel Hill, NC and Richard "Ric" (Merinell "Mikki") Vargas of Port Jefferson Station, NY; one sister-in-law, Sheila (Mel) Kendrick; 10 grandchildren, Noah, Gabriel, Riley, Mya, Lucas, Vivian, Laila, Diego, Vincent and Megan; and many nieces and nephews. In addition to his father, Zaragosa, he was preceded in death by his brother, Ted Vargas.
Visitation will be held on Saturday, December 8, 2012, from 2-4 & 6-8 p.m. at the Anderson Funeral Home, Adrian. Funeral services will be held on Sunday, December 9, 2012, at 3:00 p.m. at the Anderson Funeral Home, Adrian with Reverend Charles Moore officiating. Cremation will follow the services.
