Marjorie Lucille "Marge" Goelz, 77, of Elyria, Ohio, drifted away peacefully at Life Care Center of Elyria early Friday, November 2, 2012 after a long illness. Born in Sycamore, Ohio on February 27, 1935, she was the second child of Robert and Geraldine (Cross) McDermott.

Marge was a 1953 graduate of Sycamore High School and continued her education at Tiffin University. While attending TU, she had the honor of joining the Alpha Iota Sorority alongside her sister Louise. After graduating in 1955, she worked at the Shelby Air Force Depot and Marion Engineer Depot before marrying her husband of 51 years, Ralph Goelz, in 1961. This marked the beginning of her long-time residence in the Elyria area, where she raised three children and later provided child care services in her home. There was always a soft spot in her heart for children and animals.

Marge's greatest joys derived from her close ties to family and the time she spent with them. She was active and athletic throughout her entire life, winning numerous tennis trophies in her youth and later making life-long friends playing volleyball in the Elyria Parks and Recreation Department, performing with the Poco Loco Line Dancers, and bicycling with the Silver Wheels Cycling Club. She remained an enthusiastic follower of professional tennis, high school softball, and Major League Baseball to the end. She also enjoyed crafting and was nearly unbeatable playing cards and board games. In her final days, Marge delighted in receiving a personal letter from her idol, Swiss tennis legend Roger Federer.

Left behind to cherish her memory are her husband, Ralph Goelz of Elyria; a daughter Diana Malinkey of LaGrange; two sons Philip (Joyce) Goelz of Medina and Chris Goelz of Hilliard; three sisters Genevieve Schlack, Louise Wyeth, and Joanne Schaeffer; two brothers Paul McDermott and Robert E. McDermott; five grandchildren Kristen, Ashley, Kyle, Ryan, and Emily.

Marge was preceded in death by both of her parents; a son-in-law James Malinkey; sister Pauline McDermott; and an infant brother. Throughout her life, Marge expressed undying gratitude for the loving inspiration of her grandmother Maude (Delaplane) Cross.

A Memorial Service will be held 2pm Saturday, November 10 at the Busch Funeral Home, 114 Second Street, Elyria. Rev. Christopher Robinson, of New Life Hospice, will officiate.

Memorial contributions may be made to the American Cancer Society, P.O. Box 22718, Oklahoma City, OK 73123-1718. www.buschfuneral.com
