John W. Stanko, 73 of Birmingham, Michigan, passed away peacefully surrounded by family November 22, 2012. He was born December 12, 1938 in Windsor, Ontario to John and Agnes (nee Petro) Stanko. He was a proud graduate of Lincoln Park High School and is especially remembered for his outstanding athletic abilities and achievements on the baseball team. He married Brenda Mackanos of Lincoln Park, Michigan in 1959 and raised his family as longtime residents of Allen Park, Michigan. His career as an automotive draftsman/designer at Ford Motor Company began when he was 17 and he remained a loyal employee for 33 years. While at Ford, he enjoyed playing in the intramural sports leagues, especially softball and basketball. John had a passion for reading, cooking, fishing, watching and playing sports. He attended and followed all of his grandchildren's school and sports interests. Grandpa was their number one fan and athletic advisor. He found joy in family gatherings. He will always be remembered by those who knew him for his zest for life. He leaves this world having loved and been loved by so many and with a deep faith in Jesus Christ his savior. A happy life, a peaceful end, he died as he lived, everyone's friend. John is survived by Brenda, his loving and devoted wife of 53 years, his daughter Susan Gibbs, her husband Joe and their children Joey, Madeline, and Nick, his daughter Elizabeth Harnadek, her husband David, their two sons Stephen and Christopher, his son John and wife Linda and his daughter Jennifer Enoch, her husband Matt and their two children Jenna and Mathew. John is also survived by his two sisters Carole (Larry) Graf and Barbara (Tom) Duggan. He also has three nephews and two nieces. Family will receive friends at A.J. Desmond & Sons (Vasu, Rodgers & Connell Chapel), 32515 Woodward (btwn 13-14 Mile), Saturday, December 15, 2012 10:00am until Memorial Service at 12:00pm. Memorial tributes to Kidney Foundation of Michigan.
