John "Jack" Grierson Whitacre 75, of Wakeman, went home to the Lord Tuesday November 6, 2012, surrounded by his loving family. He was born on July 15, 1937 in Elyria, where he grew up. Jack graduated from Elyria High in 1955. He was a veteran of the United States Army serving time in Korea. He married his wife Nancy Anne Leland in 1960, and remained together for 52 years. He retired from Lorain Ford. He and his wife moved to Wakeman in 1995. He was a dedicated parishioner of St. Mary's Wakeman and a member of the Wakeman Eagles.
He is preceded in death by his parents, Marshal and Jean Whitacre, and brothers Thomas, Hubert, and Phillip Whitacre.
He is survived by his wife, Nancy, his son, Jeffrey (Brenda), daughters; Kim (Mark) Blair, Jennifer Key and Julie Markus, Grandchildren, Ryan (Michelle), Ashley and Jason Blair; Tanner and Allison Whitacre, Dylan and Lauren Markus; and Chelsea Key. A Great Grandson Gavin John, as well as numerous nieces and nephews.
Friends may call on Friday from 2:00 to 4:00 and 7:00 until the Scripture Service at 8:30 at the Morman Funeral Home, 16 Cooper Street, Wakeman. A Mass of the Resurrection will be held on Saturday November 10, 2012 at 1:30 at St. Mary's Church in Wakeman. Father Doug Taylor will be officiating. Burial will take place at a later date.
