Sonny was born on May 21, 1929, in Dubuque, Iowa, son of Irving and Evelyn (Rellihan) Hubbard.

Sonny married his "Sweetheart of All My Dreams" Marlene Duffy on May 30, 1949, at St. Raphael's Cathedral in Dubuque. Sonny and Marlene were very devoted to each other and she was his loving full time caregiver for the past 8 years. He retired in 1987 from John Deere Dubuque Works and previously worked at General Dry Battery. Sonny was a soloist in St. Patrick's Vested Choir, a member of UAW Local 94 and Holy Spirit Parish, Sacred Heart Church. He was a very active family man who loved traveling to auto races, sightseeing and visiting amusement parks. Roller coaster rides were one of his favorites. Over the years Sonny enjoyed hunting, NASCAR, boating and passing on his many talents to Patty and Mike. After he retired Sonny enjoyed taking daily walks with Marlene at Eagle Point Park, riding his motorcycle, bowling and golfing. He took great pride in being the smart, loving person that he was. His spirit of fun, happiness and love for life was always present. Sonny always looked forward to family events, whether it be a sporting event, an auto racing event, welcoming a new grandchild or great grandchild, a wedding or a holiday.
