Ernest Clifford Thompson, age 88, passed away Thursday, December 15, 2011 at Baltimore Washington Medical Center in Baltimore Maryland. He was born on October 8, 1923 in Garret, Pennsylvania to Oliver and Mary Thompson.
Ernest served his country with distinction in the US Navy, enlisting in 1942 and Honorably Discharged in 1945. Ernest's tour of duty took him through South America, back and forth through the Panama Canal, around the horn of Africa, India, Australia, and arriving back in San Francisco for his Honorable Discharge.
Mr. Thompson was employed by Ford Motor Company as an inspector for 25 years, retiring in 1985 and was a parishioner at St. Vincent De Paul Catholic Church in Elyria. He enjoyed living life to the fullest.
He is survived by his son, James (Diane) Thompson, of Moon Twp., Massachusetts; daughter, Deanna Thompson, of Pasadena, Maryland; son-in-law, Nick Ammadio; granddaughter, Terry, of Massachusetts; grandson, James (Monica), of Massachusetts; great-grandchildren, Kayln and Michael.
Ernest was preceded in death by his wife, Shirley; daughter, Joyce Ammadio; and six brothers.
The Thompson Family will receive on Tuesday, December 20, 2011 from 4:00 – 7:00 p.m. in the Dovin and Reber Jones Funeral & Cremation Center, 1110 Cooper Foster Park Road, Amherst where funeral services will be held on Wednesday, December 21, 2011 at 11:00 a.m., Deacon John Slatcoff, of St. Vincent De Paul Catholic Church, will officiate. Interment will follow in Ridge Hill Memorial Park, Amherst Twp. Full Military Honors will be conducted by the VFW Post # 451 and the American Legion Post # 30.
In lieu of flowers the family suggest contributions be made in memory of Ernest to the Pasadena Senior Activity Center, 4103 Mountain Road, Pasadena, MD 21122.
