Elvira R. Colella (nee Caserta), age 98, of Amherst, died on Wednesday, July 20, 2011 at Amherst Manor Nursing Home.
She was born on October 9, 1912 in Montenero Val Cocchiara, Italy to the late Guiseppe and Giovanna Caserta. She came to America, settling in Lorain with her family, at the age of 3.
Elvira was a member of St. Joseph Catholic Church in Amherst and Lakeland Woman’s Club.
She enjoyed gardening, baking and cooking and was an avid reader.
She is survived by her son, Richard (Patricia) Colella Esq., of Amherst; her daughter-in-law, Elizabeth Colella, of Kensington, MD; her grandchildren, Richard J. (Laura) Colella Esq., of Amherst, Dr. Adrienne J. (Dr. Angelo DeNisi) Colella of New Orleans, LA, James Colella, and John H. (Karen) Colella, both of Ashburn, VA, Elizabeth (Sean) McPhilomy, of Fairfax, VA and Jay Colella, of Kensington, MD; 8 Great-Grandchildren; and her sister, Carmella (Emilio) DiFillippo, of Erie, PA.
She was preceded in death by her husband of 44 years, Innocenzio “James” in 1973; her son, Domenick N. Colella in 2007; her brothers, Val Caserta and Peter A. Caserta and her sisters, Julia Yacobozzi and Madeline DiFillippo.
The family will receive friends on Monday, July 25th from 4:00 p.m. – 8:00 p.m. at Dovin and Reber Jones Funeral & Cremation Center, 1110 Cooper Foster Park Rd., Amherst. Closing Prayers will be said Tuesday, July 26th at 9:30 a.m. in the Funeral Center followed by Funeral Mass at 10:00 a.m. at the St. Joseph Catholic Church, Amherst. Rev. Fr. Lawrence Martello, Pastor, will officiate. Burial will follow in Calvary Cemetery, Lorain.
