Ella Tomka, 89, and a lifelong resident of Lorain, was freed from her battle with lung cancer on September 26th.

Born on October 16, 1921, she graduated from Lorain High School and worked for the Ohio Bureau of Employment Services, retiring in 1986. After retirement, she continued her work as a Jobs Placement Counselor for El Centro de Servicios. She was responsible for helping many obtain employment throughout Lorain County in her over 35 years of public service.

She loved spending time with her family above all things, and her Hungarian baking skills brought many requests from friends over the years. An avid Cleveland sports fan, she held out hope for the Tribe and the Browns all her life.

She was preceded in death by her parents, George and Katherine Tomka, brother, George, and sister Marguerite Strauser.

She is survived by her sister, Patricia Brandon, Nephews: Paul Brandon, Patrick (Terri) Brandon, Niece: Kerry (Jim) Ceccatti , four great nieces: Nicole Vanche, Anna Vanche, Lauryn Brandon, Kathryn Brandon and one great nephew: Anthony Brandon.

The family will receive friends on Thursday, September 29th from 5-8 p.m. in Dovin and Reber Jones Funeral & Cremation Center, 1110 Cooper Foster Park Rd., Amherst, where a parastas service will be held at 7:00 p.m. Panachida will be held on Friday morning at 9:30 a.m. in the funeral center followed by Divine Liturgy at 10:00 a.m. at St. Nicholas Byzantine Catholic Church, 2711 West 40th St., Lorain.
