Edward Nicholas Imbrogno, passed away at age 90 on Friday December 21, 2012.
He was born December 6, 1922 (St. Nicholas Day) in Calabria, Italy and emigrated at age six with his family. He made Lorain, Ohio his lifelong home. At a young age, he worked as a caddy and groundskeeper at the original Lorain Country Club where he learned a work ethic that led to success. After graduating from Lorain High School where he was an outstanding track and field athlete, he served with the Army Combat Engineers during WWII and was honorably discharged.
Ed built a successful career in the precision machining industry and became known locally and nationally for his honesty and integrity as a businessman. After starting employment with Western Automatic Company he moved to The Couch-Uthe Company and then became Vice-President and part owner of Lagrange Screw Products. His business career culminated as owner and President of Ohio Screw Products in Elyria, from 1977 until 2003. During his time there he modernized and grew the company, and developed a national sales network that allowed their products to be sold all over the United States. He was a former member and Trustee for the NSMPA –now known as the Precision Machine Products Association. As a member, he attended many national meetings, served on multiple committees and received the association's Gold Micrometer Award for noteworthy contributions to the industry. He was a member of the Lorain County Chamber of Commerce and the Sales and Marketing Executives of Lorain County.
Self-taught from his days as a caddy, Ed became a good golfer and enjoyed the game through much of his life with many friends and family. He was a long-time member of The Elyria Country Club. He was an accomplished gardener, woodworker, and do-it-yourself-er. A lifelong catholic, he was a member of St. Peter Roman Catholic Church.
Ed cherished his wife and lifelong companion, Esther, to whom he was married for 68 years. She was the "Light of his life." They were nearly inseparable; and especially enjoyed time with their family, as well as spending winters with family and good friends in Marco Island and Naples, Florida. Travelling throughout the United States and Europe was one of their joys. Ed will be remembered for many things: foremost among them his love for his family; his integrity as a man; and his passion for doing good work.
He is survived by his wife of 68 years, Esther (nee) Biczykowski, daughter Dianne DeHayes of Lorain, sons Daniel (Karrie) of Lorain, Dean (Diane) of Dayton, OH, and Edward (Terri) of Amherst, along with 8 grandchildren and 2 great-grandchildren. Also surviving are brother, Robert, of Lorain, and sisters Theresa Zientarski, of Avon, and Loretta Lehocz, of Lorain.
He is preceded in death by daughter Karen, mother Caterina, father Eugene, and brothers Louis and Dulio.
The Imbrogno Family will receive friends Wednesday, December 26, 2012, from 2-4 and 6-8 p.m. in the Dovin and Reber Jones Funeral & Cremation Center, 1110 Cooper Foster Park Rd., Amherst, where closing prayers will be on Thursday, December 27th at 9:00 a.m., followed by Mass of Christian Burial at 9:30 a.m. at the Church of St. Peter, 3655 Oberlin Ave., Lorain. Rev. Craig Hovanec, Pastor, will officiate. Burial will follow in Calvary Cemetery, Lorain.
