Don Ray Bannister, 72, of Scurry, passed away peacefully surrounded by his loving family on December 1, 2012. He was born on October 26, 1940 in Kaufman County to Ray and Leta Bell (Clark) Bannister. Don dearly loved fishing for catfish at Cedar Creek Lake and spending time with his family. He was known as "Donald Duck" to those close to him for his funny duck voices. Don could bring a smile to the saddest face and his personality lit up the room when he walked in. He was beloved "PawPaw" to his grandchildren, who worshipped the ground he walked on. Don was married to his dear wife Valerie Elizabeth (Adamson) Bannister for 49 wonderful years.

Don is preceded in death by his parents and brother, Ronnie Bannister. Those left to celebrate his life are beloved wife Valerie, dear children Doug Bannister of Scurry, Shelley Rychlik and husband Henry of Scurry, and Darla Hammer and husband Scott of Kemp; grandchildren Alyson Hibdon, Taylor Huddle, Ronnie Hibdon, and Trenton Hibdon; brothers James Bannister and wife Sue and Johnny Bannister and wife Sherry; sisters-in-law Lucy Melton and husband Don and Marcy Benham and husband Newton; brother-in-law Clinton Adamson and wife Kim; and many nieces, nephews, cousins and dear friends who will all miss him greatly.

Family will receive visitors on Tuesday, December 4 from 6-8 pm at the funeral home. Graveside service will be Wednesday, December 5 at 11 am at Mount Olive Cemetery in Scurry.

In lieu of flowers, family requests donations be made in Don's honor to the American Cancer Society or St. Jude Children's Research Hospital.
