Chris Bowen Couch, 53, of Scurry, passed away June 15, 2012 in Houston with his family at his side. Chris was born September 15, 1958 in Bay City, TX to Leon Bowen Couch and Joan Edith Eggleston. He was preceded in death by his father, Hap Couch, brother, Arthur Lee Couch and his sister-in-law, Debbie Couch.

Chris attended and graduated from Forney High School and during that time, he was an accomplished athlete who was active in many sports including football and track. At Forney HS, he played varsity football all four years and was voted All-District Offensive and Defensive Player and MVP his senior year. Chris was also named Varsity Player of the Week as a freshman by the Dallas Times Herald newspaper. After graduation, Chris then attended Eastern Arizona State University where he continued to play football after which he earned his Bachelor's of Science from East Texas State University. He received his Master's degree from Texas A&M-Commerce where he also attained his Superintendent's certification. Chris was the Power Lifting and Football coach for North Garland High School and then he became Scurry-Rosser Middle School principal and served as Scurry-Rosser ISD's superintendent. The Scurry-Rosser ISD achieved an Exemplary District rating and Scurry-Rosser Middle School received the prestigious U. S. Department of Education's National Blue Ribbon School award due to the incredible team of dedicated teachers, staff, administrators and students that worked together diligently under Chris' leadership. Chris was a former elder of First Presbyterian Church in Forney and attended Mt. Olive Baptist Church in Scurry.

Chris leaves behind those to cherish his memory: his wife, Lana Montgomery Couch, of Scurry; son, Thomas Gordon Couch of Forney; daughter, Ali Montgomery Couch of Scurry; son, Lindsay Lee Bowen Couch of Austin; mother, Joan Couch Oehlschlaeger; brothers: Mark Couch and wife, Laurie, of Austin, Bruce Couch and wife, Lisa, of Forney; sister, Ginny Pruet and husband, James, of Rockwall as well as many nieces, nephews, aunts, uncles, extended family and friends and countless students and colleagues whose lives will forever be a continued legacy to the commitment that Chris showed to their achievements in education and goals.

A celebration of Chris's life will be held at 3:00 pm, Tuesday, June 19, 2012 at First Baptist Church of Forney with interment to follow at Hillcrest Cemetery under the direction of Anderson-Clayton Bros. Funeral Home. The family will receive friends from 6-8pm, Monday, June 18, 2012 at First Baptist Forney, 1005 College St., Forney, TX, 75126.

In lieu of flowers, the family asks that memorials be made in Chris's honor to M.D. Anderson Hospital at
