Carolyn Elizabeth Holcomb (nee Schlechter), 82, passed away Thursday, December 13, 2012 at the Wesleyan Village in Elyria following an extended illness.

A life-long resident of Henrietta, born August 5, 1930, she graduated from Henrietta High School in 1948. She was a Cum Laude graduate of Baldwin Wallace College in 1952 with a Bachelor of Science Degree. She was a member of the Dayton C. Miller Honor Fraternity. She was a member of the Beta Chapter of Pi Beta Sigma, one of the first inter-racial sororities in the country.

Carolyn and her husband Myrle Lewis Holcomb married in 1951. She taught Home Economics at Amherst Central School from 1952-1954. She was a 4-H advisor to the Henrietta 4-H Clovers for 27 years. She taught children's music at Sunday School for many years.

Mrs. Holcomb was a lifelong member of the Henrietta United Methodist Church where she was a member of the Henrietta Methodist Women. She also was a member of the Lorain County Farm Bureau. She enjoyed music, sewing, antiques, creative writing, and caring for her grandchildren.

She is survived by her daughter Faith Jagger (Jerry); sons Harland Holcomb (Laurie) and Dean Holcomb of Lorain; sister Janet Squire of LaGrange; grandchildren Carri Jagger, Jacob Jagger (Kerilynn), Tiffany Rogers Holcomb, Lauren Holcomb, Emily Holcomb; great-granddaughter Mika Ann Jagger.

She was preceded in death by her husband Myrle Lewis Holcomb in April 2008; parents Harland Schlechter and Bernice Schlechter (nee Fowl), sister Emogene Schlechter in 2009.

The funeral service will be 11am Monday, December 17 at Henrietta United Methodist Church, 52148 State Route 113, Amherst. Rev. Armando C. Arellano, Pastor, will officiate. Burial will be in Henrietta Cemetery. Friends may call 2-5pm Sunday at the Busch Funeral Home, 114 Second Street, Elyria.
