Carl A. Parker passed away on Tuesday, October 25, 2011 in the emergency room of EMH Healthcare in Elyria, Ohio. Carl was born on September 24, 1930 in Toronto, Ohio to Hugh and Thelma (nee Armstrong) Parker.
At a young age, Carl served his country in the United States Air Force. Moving to the Lorain area, he met and married Julia Furore Parker in 1949, together they had seven children.
Carl was a Golden Gloves boxer along with his two brothers, Jack and Lenny. He was a lifelong union carpenter, retiring from Stevens Painton Corporation in 1992. Carl was a member of the Masonic Black River Lodge.
Carl spent his retirement years fishing, golfing, gambling and watching football.
He is survived by his children, Ann (Tom) Jenkins, Cindy Gentry, Toni(Jerry) Cricks, Janice Cobb, Guy Parker and Phil (Sandy) Parker; grandchildren, Nick, Matt, Shawn R., Shawn G., Mary, Tim, Jessica, Beth, Tyler and Paige; several great-grandchildren; brothers, Leonard and William; sisters, Betty and Donna; his best friend and son-in-law, Dennis Lapp.
He was preceded in death by his infant son, Carl Bradford Parker; his second wife, Barbara (nee Zavala) Parker; brothers, Kenny, Bobby and Jack; sister, Ruth. Carl was also recently preceded in death by his two son-in-laws, Dick Burrer and Bob Gentry.
Carl will be missed by many friends and numerous family members. He loved life and was always ready with a good joke to make you laugh.
The Parker family will receive friends on Friday, October 28, 2011 from 4:00 – 8:00 p.m. in the Dovin and Reber Jones Funeral & Cremation Center, 1110 Cooper Foster Park Road, Amherst. Funeral services will be held on Saturday, October 29, 2011 at 10:00 a.m. in the funeral center. Private family interment will take place at a later date.
In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made in his name to the Lorain County Animal Protective League, 8303 Murray Ridge Road, Elyria, OH 44035
