Bernice "Bea" M. Marquis, age 92, a resident of Madison, Ohio, passed away peacefully Monday, November 26, 2012, at Rae-Ann Geneva Skilled Nursing and Rehabilitation Center in Geneva.
Bea was born June 1, 1920 in Cleveland, Ohio. She was preceded in death by her parents, Gerald and Jenny (Peterson) Volante; her husband, Donald Marquis; daughter, Linda (Matteson) Price; daughter-in-law, Carmel Matteson; first husband, Robert D. Matteson; sister, Gloria Wargelin; and brothers, Thomas, Gerald and Richard Volante.
She is survived by daughter, Joyce Matteson (Al) Perry of Evansville, IN; son, Robin Matteson of Beaufort, SC; son-in-law, Dale Price of Sheffield Village, OH; 5 grandsons, Christopher (Christina Bakevelou) and John Perry, Aaron and Tyson Rayburn, and Cory Matteson; 2 great granddaughters, Olivia and Natalia Perry Bakevelou; and sisters, Viola Skinner and Virginia Tuuri, both of Madison.
Bea enjoyed a full and interesting life. She and her husband, Don, owned and operated the Chapeldale Ace Hardware store. Prior to that she worked as a nurse at the Cleveland Clinic, spent a number of years working for the Madison Press and she was the owner of Little Tam Miniature Golf Course at Madison-on-the-Lake. Bea also served as a Girl Scout Leader, volunteered at Red Bird Elementary School, was a member of the American Legion Auxiliary, and was a charge member of the Madison Garden Club. She enjoyed gardening, making stained glass pieces, photography and travel. She and her husband Don loved the many cross country trips they took on their motorcycle and in their motor home.
Bea was a friend to all who met her, with a pleasant personality and great sense of humor. She wa a loving and devoted wife, mother and grandmother.
Friends will be received 1-3 PM Friday, November 30, 2012 at The Behm Family Funeral Home, 26 River Street, Madison, Ohio with a Celebration of Life following at 3:00 PM.
